Glory to thy Earth!

After days of bickering heat and sweltering humidity, comes the rapturous rain, announcing its arrival by thunderous clouds and filling my aching heart with ease and joy.

I can now forget the numerous mindless chores and rest my mind and fall asleep soundly listening to the sweet lullaby of raindrops piter pater on my windowsill.

The blue white sky becomes a steely grey. It is time to take a break, they say.

The trees rising vertically up to the sky sway with the gentle breeze as if doing a soft dance in the melody of rain. The birds become still and quiet, to show their gratitude to their creator. The insects acknowledge the rain by brimming with delight. The sounds of rain and cacophony of crickets blend together and create a meditative atmosphere.

Glory to thy Earth! Glory to thy creator! The contemplation of earth and its astonishing mysteries can never be complete without giving due obeisance to the all Almighty who created it, nurtured it and can even destroy it.

Our selfish cynical desires are puny in front of the large scheme of things that surround us. Our desires are a manifold cause of our own misery. The Mother earth has a lot to give. The scent of wet mud, the fresh new leaves in rain, the blossoming flowers, beautiful creatures around us are always ready to soothe us.

It is easy to ignore this harmony and get lost in the maze of Maya. It is easy to compare oneself with other and get entangled in trivial trials and tribulations.

What is wise and truly difficult is to appreciate this subtle beauty of life and to live it with dignity and humility towards all fellow creatures, be it man, animal or insect.

  1. Mother Earth, nature ; on top of it the arrival of Monsoon rains. How beautifully picturised in words. Speaks a lot about your state-of-the mind and your feelings. It’s more of a poetic in nature which touches the inner core of one’s heart.

  2. True. We are surrounded by miracles. Yet, there are times when we get caught up in comparisons and frustrations. We tend to take all these miracles for granted. You have described the beauty of Nature and all that God has created so beautifully

  5. Nature lovers are dwindling day by day. Rains are amazing as it brings in a respite to the heat. And the conjurer of dreams germinates inside you. Words just pour out. It was wonderful reading your piece.

  6. We hardly take time out to be with mother nature. Rains are like a breath of fresh air as it gives respite to the heat. And then the conjurer of dreams inside us is born and germinates and sprouts around like saplings. Words pour out like rains. Terrific feeling. Terrific depiction of the rains by you.
